When you travel outside the area of validity of your ticket or travelcard but within the borders of the Arcobaleno integrated fare network, you have to purchase a zone upgrade for the additional zones.
Example: a person with a ticket or travelcard for zones 10 and 11, who wants to travel from Lugano to Bellinzona, must purchase a zone upgrade for 3 zones (120, 200 and 210) irrespective of the mode of transport.
Adding zones
The zone upgrade is the most convenient solution for anyone who sometimes travels outside the area of validity of their travelcard.

For use within the selected period of validity, the zone upgrade can only be purchased in combination with the following tickets:
- Arcobaleno travelcard
- Multiple-journey ticket
- Day Pass
- Multiple Day Pass

Class upgrade
If you have a ticket or travelcard for 2nd class, you can travel in 1st class by purchasing a class upgrade. Both tickets must be shown at the ticket check.
