Arcobaleno tickets
Is my Arcobaleno ticket valid outside the Ticino and Moesano regions?
The ticket is only valid for the Ticino and Moesano regions. Cross-border tickets are also valid for Trenord regional and suburban trains.
Are the junior travelcard and children’s co-travelcard also valid with an Arcobaleno ticket?
Yes, they are.
Who is entitled to the reduced fare?
The reduced fare applies to children and young people aged between 6 and until 25, and to half fare travelcard holders.
Can I pay for Arcobaleno tickets using Reka Cheques?
Yes, you can.
Is the half fare travelcard valid for purchasing an Arcobaleno ticket?

Period of validity for Arcobaleno tickets.
Arcobaleno tickets are valid until the next stop, according to the timetable, after expiry of the period of validity. If you hold a ticket valid up to 4 hours and cannot reach the destination within this period according to the timetable (a direct non-stop journey), the ticket is valid until destination. In the event of delays, cancelations or traffic disruptions, the ticket is valid until destination, even beyond its validity period.
Refunds
Single tickets
A single ticket cannot be refunded unless:
- you return it before the start of validity;
- you are unable to make the journey according to the time of issue or of validation.
A processing fee is applied.
Single tickets purchased in place of a forgotten or lost personal travelcard (maximum of 3 tickets for each individual case) can be refunded a subject to a processing fee.
Multiple-journey tickets and Multiple Day Passes
Wholly or partly unused multiple-journey tickets and multiple day passes can be refunded according to the details in the table under point 3.3.6.1 of the tariff. These conditions are valid for 1st and 2nd class tickets.
You are entitled to a pro rata refund in the following cases:
- Purchase of a new multiple-journey ticket with additional zones, purchase of a multiple-journey ticket for a higher travel class, and purchase of an Arcobaleno annual or monthly travelcard or a GA Travelcard.
- Damage (replacement)
- Incorrect issue
- Expired children’s multiple-journey ticket (age limit reached).

Day passes
A day pass cannot be refunded unless:
- you return it before the start of validity;
- you are unable to make the journey according to the time of issue or of validation.
A processing fee is applied.
Day passes purchased in place of a forgotten or lost personal travelcard (maximum of 3 day passes for each individual case) can be refunded subject to a processing fee.
Group ticket
Refunds are granted under the following conditions:
- Presentation of the group ticket/group day pass;
- Proof of non-use/partial use as per tariff T600.9, point 2;
- Presentation of the new purchased tickets/proof of ticket repurchase.
A processing fee is applied.
Refund of weekly travelcards
No refund possible.
Arcobaleno monthly travelcard
A monthly travelcard can be refunded up to 7 days of use. The refund amounts to 50% of the monthly travelcard’s value.
A claim to a pro rata refund applies in the following cases:
- Purchase of another monthly travelcard (regardless of the number of zones) or of an annual travelcard;
- Death of the travelcard holder (death certificate is required);
- Illness or accident (proof of inability to travel is required).

Arcobaleno annual travelcard
In case of return, the refund is calculated based on specific percentages according to the number of days used. Further information: tariff T651.17, point 4.10.2.3.
A pro rata refund is possible in the following cases:
- Purchase of another annual travelcard (regardless of the number of zones and of the class) or of a GA travelcard;
- Death of the travelcard holder (death certificate is required);
- Illness or accident (proof of inability to travel is required).
A pro rata refund is not possible if the travelcard is extended in advance due to tariff measures or to circumvent an age limit (no change of zone nor of class).

Compensation for delays i public transport
If you arrive at your destination at least one hour late, you are entitled to compensation. The amount of this compensation depends on the price of the ticket purchased and the length of the delay.

Travel provisions
From what age do you pay?
Children travel free of charge without a ticket up to 6 years of age. The reduced fare applies to tickets for children and young people aged between 6 and until. The youth fare for Arcobaleno travelcards only applies for journeys in 2nd class for young people until their 25th birthday.
What is the junior travelcard?
With the junior travelcard, children and young people aged between 6 and until 16 travel free of charge for one year throughout Switzerland, accompanied by at least one parent holding a valid ticket. The junior travelcard costs CHF 30 a year for every child and set of parents, is free of charge from the 3rd child and is loaded on the SwissPass upon purchase.

What is the children’s co-travelcard?
With the children’s co-travelcard, children and young people aged between 6 and until 16 can travel free of charge for one year throughout Switzerland when accompanied by a person holding a valid ticket (aged at least 16).
The children’s co-travelcard costs CHF 30 a year and is loaded on the SwissPass. It may be purchased by any accompanying person (grandparents, godmother and godfather, neighbours, uncles and aunts, baby-sitters, friends and family acquaintances, etc.).
I am retired. Am I entitled to a reduction?
The Arcobaleno integrated fare network does not provide reductions for seniors. Ask your municipality of residence in Switzerland if it grants benefits.
I am a recipient of disability insurance. Am I entitled to a reduction?
The Arcobaleno integrated fare network does not provide reductions for recipients of disability insurance. Ask your municipality of residence in Switzerland if it grants benefits.
Do soldiers travel free of charge?
Soldiers holding a marching order while wearing a uniform, or proof of authorisation to travel in civilian clothes are entitled to travel at a reduced price on all Arcobaleno routes. Members of the Swiss Army in uniform or with the relevant authorisation receive Arcobaleno single tickets, day passes and multiple-journey tickets at a reduced fare. Military dogs do not require a ticket, provided they are included on the marching order.
What travel reductions are available for passengers with disabilities?
Disabled travellers from 6 years of age who reside in Switzerland and, as confirmed by a medical certificate, must be accompanied by a person and/or a guide dog for the blind or an assistance dog, are entitled to discounts for disabled travellers (companion travelcard).
Passengers with a disability are entitled to travel in 1st or 2nd class with an accompanying person and/or guide dog for the blind or assistance dog at no extra cost. Either the person with a disability or the accompanying person must hold a valid ticket. For every companion, only one disabled traveller is entitled to a discount. Travel reductions may only be claimed when showing the disabled passenger’s ID card according to tariff T600, point 10.4.

How much do dogs and small animals pay?
In general, the reduced price for 2nd class must be paid for dogs. Small dogs up to a wither’s height of 30 cm, cats and other small pets in cages, baskets or other pet carriers travel free of charge as hand luggage.
What are the rules for travelling with a bicycle?
Each transport company has its own rules travelling with a bicycle. Bicycles may not be carried on certain routes; in some cases, their transport is limited to certain time slots, or a reservation is required. Please enquire before embarking on the trip whether it is possible to travel with a bicycle on the desired route. You will find further information on our website under Bike.
Must I pay for my luggage to be transported?
Hand luggage may be carried free of charge. Items intended for personal use, which can be easily loaded and unloaded by travellers and safely placed in the spaces provided, are considered hand baggage. The relevant transport company’s provisions must also be observed.
Arcobaleno travelcards
Is my Arcobaleno travelcard also valid outside the Ticino and Moesano regions?
The travelcard is only valid for the Ticino and Moesano regions. Cross-border travelcards are also valid for Trenord regional and suburban trains.
Until what age is the youth fare applicable?
The youth fare only applies to 2nd class and is granted to children and young people aged between 6 and until 25. The actual age on the first day of the travelcard’s validity is applicable.
Are the junior travelcard and children’s co-travelcard also valid with an Arcobaleno travelcard?
Yes, you can combine them with tickets as well as with weekly, monthly and annual travelcards. You will find further information on the relevant SBB web page.
I would like to purchase an Arcobaleno travelcard (annual or monthly travelcard). Must it be valid from the first day of the month?
No, you can choose the required start date (for example November 11, 2020). The travelcard is available at these points of sale.
I already have an Arcobaleno monthly travelcard. Must I have it renewed at a sales counter?
The monthly travelcard can be renewed conveniently online on the SBB website. The monthly travelcard can also be purchased at a sales counter. We advise you renew it with the issuing transport company.
How can I replace my SwissPass?
You can order a new SwissPass online. Your card will be replaced free of charge in case of a technical failure. A fee of CHF 30 is applicable should you require a new card due to a name change, loss, damage caused by you or an old photo.
Can I add one or more zones to my annual travelcard?
It is possible to add zones, but you must return your old travelcard and have a new one issued.
Can I deposit my Arcobaleno annual travelcard?
No, you cannot.
Can I use Reka Cheques to purchase Arcobaleno tickets or travelcards?
Yes, you can.
Is the half fare travelcard valid for purchasing an Arcobaleno travelcard?
No, the half fare travelcard is valid for purchasing Arcobaleno tickets but not for buying travelcards.
